Bay Area Eats: Bushido

Bay Area Eats: Bushido

I don't normally go to South Bay to eat since I don't have a car, but I had the opportunity to try the menu at Bushido, a Japanese restaurant in Mountain View. They just hired a new sushi chef near the end of last year, and they try to do things differently from other sushi restaurants by only serving up sustainable seafood! As you can see, the meal was great:

First, we started off with your standard pork gyoza, and then our plate of nigiri and the Chef's choice sashimi came out.

Interestingly, the roe came out in a hollowed out lime, but look at that presentation! So gorgeous 😍 We wanted the O-toro nigiri and uni nigiri, but they were unfortunately out so we asked what the waitress loved. She suggested getting the umi masu which was like salmon (spoiler: it was delicious). In the end, for nigiri we got umi masu, aburi, and kanpachi toro.

We also ordered one of their most popular rolls: the Brushstroke. This maki roll comes with spicy tuna, snow crab, shrimp tempura topped with trout, avocado, spicy mayo, sweet soy and tempura crunch.

If you aren't a big fan of sushi, Bushido also has delicious cooked entrees like Kurobuta Pork Belly, slow-cooked Berkshire pork belly with daikon and a poached egg, and Chicken Karaage Buns. The pork belly was beautifully tender and had a delicious sauce, and I'd recommend ordering some rice on the side to soak up all that sauce!

My favorite dish of the meal had to be the Uni Kani Risotto, aka crab risotto!

This delicious crab risotto is cooked up and served in a crab shell with some uni on top. It wasn't soft the way most risotto is, but it was rich and delicious. It is definitely a dish I would get again!
