My Top 5 Podcasts in August

My Top 5 Podcasts in August

I love my jingles and, whenever I'm not watching something on Netflix, I've got something playing on Spotify! I have different playlists for different things, but I like to put all my current jams into this one before moving it into a mood playlist. Of course, podcasts have been up and coming in the last few years, so I have a few that I listen to consistently whenever I'm commuting to work, cooking at home, or killing time at the airport!

With Labor Day weekend coming up, I decided to share some of what's been making the rounds on my phone/laptop. I listen to a mix of comedy, news, and educational podcasts but I'm always looking for new ones, so please share some of your favorites with me! For now, here are my top 5 podcasts that I'm currently listening to:

1. How Did This Get Made

Whenever I'm in the mood for a laugh, How Did This Get Made gets the job done. This podcast does exactly as the title implies: it questions why and how a movie got made. The best part is that the hosts are three actors and comedians so they are naturally HILARIOUS. Each movie they review is pretty much crap, but the commentary they give is so good that you don't even need to watch the movie to enjoy the podcast!

2. Pod Save America

Let's get real...the U.S. is in some real deep sh*t these days so I stay on top of my political news when I can by listening to Pod Save America. It's hosted by former Obama speechwriters and they have pretty legit guests on the show that can talk about laws, policy, etc. that matter now. For someone like me who is kind of clueless when it comes to American politics, they are great about explaining things in layman's terms!

3. Why Won't You Date Me

I love to laugh, and, if you do too, definitely check out Netflix's Nailed It. And if you want to keep the fun going, listen to Why Won't You Date Me, a hilarious podcast by the host of Nailed It, the comedian Nicole Byers! Each episode features her and a guest talking about the hardships of dating, but they always go off on tangents talking about sex, careers, living in Hollywood, racism, and more. I've listened to about 10+ episodes so far, and each and every one has been super entertaining so far!

4. Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness

Netflix is really killing it these days, and apparently so are their stars! Another podcast I just started listening to and am loving these days is Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness, hosted by one of my favorite Queer Eye guys. In each episode, he tackles a specific subject he's curious about and he has guests to demystify it for him. I've been loving his interviews with his fellow co-stars on Queer Eye because they seem like they're actually good friends outside of the show!

5. Ask Your Dog Guru

Surprise! I was in the market for a new pet/best friend, but I had never had a dog before. That's why I've been listening to a lot of Ask Your Dog Guru, a podcast all about dogs hosted by a professional trainer! Every episode is pretty short, but she has a lot of great advice for people with dogs, even if they're not new owners.

Bonus, here is the text my dad sent me a few days after I told my parents I was looking for a dog:

My parents have such faith in me

Fast forward a month later and the joke's on them because I DID get a dog! Dog Guru + Reddit + vet advice + friends' advice help me keep her happy (I hope). Meet Momo:
