Bougie Smoked Salmon & Cucumber Ribbon Toast
Something that I don’t recommend you do if you’re just two people: buying smoked salmon at Costco. We saw a great deal and anyone who knows me knows that I love deals…but Costco-sized goods are no joke!
To be honest, I thought Alan would eat more of the pack with me, but he tapped out pretty early on because he’s not actually a huge fan of smoked salmon. There’s probably only so much that a normal person could take, but people who know me also know that I can be stubborn AF 😅
Since I was already on a toast kick, eating smoked salmon felt easier once I made something that looked good, especially when I was so tired of it. If you want a fancy breakfast with simple ingredients, try out this bougie toast!
P.S. I also made a video of how to make the smoked salmon into a rose shape for anyone who works better with a visual guide. You’ll find that video below or on my YouTube channel with the other vlogs I’ve done (trying to get better about posting there so let me know what you think)!
Bougie Smoked Salmon & Cucumber Ribbon Toast
Makes 1 serving
Ingredients:
3-4 slices of smoked salmon (use however much feels right to you, but you need at least 3 for a voluminous-looking rose)
¼ English cucumber
1 tbsp chopped red onion
½ tbsp capers
1 tbsp cream cheese
1 tbsp Everything But the Bagel Seasoning
1 slice of sourdough (or bread of your choice)
Instructions:
Toast your bread and spread the cream cheese on top. Sprinkle the Everything But the Bagel seasoning on top and set it aside.
Lay your smoked salmon slices out and cut them in half lengthwise. Layer them in a line with the edges overlapping but keep 2 slices on the side.
Begin rolling from the outer edge, keeping the roll tighter on one end like you’re making a cone. As you roll, start off with a tight roll but loosen the rolling as you get more layers — this way you have a rosebud and then the looser layers create the “petals.”
After you finish rolling, you should have something that looks like a rose or at least like a cinnamon roll. Lay the smoked salmon swirl side up so it is flat on your cutting board and then take the slices you set aside to wrap around the “flower” to create additional petals.
With a vegetable peeler, take the peel off the cucumber, but then keep peeling to make thin cucumber slices/ribbons.
Place the smoked salmon rose on top of the toast and then add your garnish (cucumber ribbons, red onions, and capers) around it. Feel free to sprinkle some more Everything But the Bagel seasoning on top or eat it as is!
Smoked Salmon Rose Tutorial
Here’s a video showing you how I make the smoked salmon rose. The key is starting off with a tight roll and then going looser with the outer “petals.”
